About the Cent to Square Feet Converter
The cent is the land unit of South India — Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh — and it is exactly 1/100 of an acre, so 435.6 sq ft. In Kerala and Tamil Nadu plots are usually quoted in cents, while neighbouring states use guntha or square yards for the same land.
The relationship to guntha is worth knowing: 1 guntha is 1,089 sq ft, which is 2.5 cents. So 40 guntha is 1 acre, and 100 cents is 1 acre — two ways of counting the same area.
How the calculation works
- 1 cent = 435.6 sq ft = 40.468564224 m²
- 1 acre = 100 cent = 40 guntha
- 1 guntha = 2.5 cent = 1,089 sq ft

Worked examples
- 3 cent is 1,306.8 sq ft, a compact plot in Chennai.
- 8 cent is 3,484.8 sq ft, about 0.08 acre.
- 10 cent is 4,356 sq ft, a tenth of an acre.
Checking the answer by hand
Multiply cent by 435.6, or divide square feet by 435.6 to go back. One hundred cents must return exactly 43,560 sq ft. A common check in Tamil Nadu listings is "how many sq ft is 5 cent" — 2,178, which is the same as 5 decimal.
Common mistakes
- Confusing cent with square metre. One cent is 40.47 m², not 100.
- Assuming a cent is a fixed shape. It is an area, so a long thin plot and a square one can both be 3 cent.
- Quoting cents in states that sell by guntha, then comparing prices without converting.
A last check on the numbers: 37 Cent / decimal works out to 16,117.2 Square foot, and reversing that with the same factor brings you back to 37 Cent / decimal. Because Cent / decimal to Square foot is a single multiplication, any tool that gives a different figure for the same input is rounding somewhere in the middle rather than only at the end.
