kg to lbs Converter
Type a weight in kilograms and press Convert to get pounds. One kilogram is exactly 2.20462262 lb, so 70 kg is 154.32 lb.
About the kg to lbs Converter
The international pound has been defined as exactly 0.45359237 kg since the 1959 agreement between the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, so the reverse factor is exact as well: 1 kg = 1 ÷ 0.45359237 = 2.2046226218 lb. This page uses that figure rather than a rounded 2.2, which matters as soon as you are converting 50 kg or more.
Body weight is where most people meet this conversion. A European scale in kilograms and a US or UK scale in pounds differ by a factor of about 2.2, and 1 lb is only 0.4536 kg, so a 5 lb change is roughly 2.27 kg. One decimal place is plenty outside a laboratory.
How the calculation works
- Pounds = kilograms × 2.2046226218
- Kilograms = pounds × 0.45359237
- 1 stone = 14 lb = 6.35029318 kg

Worked examples
- 60 kg × 2.20462262 = 132.28 lb, which is 9 stone 6.3 lb in British usage.
- 75 kg × 2.20462262 = 165.35 lb, the top of many middleweight weight classes.
- 90 kg is 198.42 lb, and 100 kg is 220.46 lb.
Checking the answer by hand
Multiply by 2.2 for a mental estimate, then compare: 82 kg × 2.2 gives 180.4 lb, where the exact answer is 180.78 lb. A gap of under 0.3 lb means the arithmetic is right. If the estimate and the converter disagree by more than 1%, you have almost certainly multiplied instead of divided.
Common mistakes
- Using 2.5 as the factor. It overstates the weight by more than 13%, which is 10 kg on an 80 kg reading.
- Converting a stone figure straight to kilograms. Convert stone to pounds first, then to kilograms.
- Rounding the kilogram figure before converting. Round at the end, never in the middle.
A last check on the numbers: 37 Kilogram works out to 81.57 Pound, and reversing that with the same factor brings you back to 37 Kilogram. Because Kilogram to Pound is a single multiplication, any tool that gives a different figure for the same input is rounding somewhere in the middle rather than only at the end.
