How to use this chart

1 lb = 0.4536 kg

Find the pound figure in the first column and read across for kilograms and stones.

Steps of five keep the table readable; interpolate between rows for values in between.

About the Pounds to Kg Chart

This direction is the one that matters at a gym: plates, dumbbells and machines are marked in pounds on American equipment and in kilograms on European equipment, and a programme written in one unit gets followed in the other.

Because the row spacing is five pounds, a value between two rows is easy to estimate: each pound is 0.4536 kg, so 5 lb is 2.27 kg and 1 lb is under half a kilogram. A 185 lb figure sits between the 185 row and the 190 row at roughly 84 kg.

Stones are included because a British reader looking at 168 lb wants to know it is 12 stone exactly, and the chart shows that faster than a conversion app does. Fourteen pounds to a stone, twelve stone to 168 lb.

For a shipping or medical figure, use the converter rather than the chart: the table is rounded to two decimals, and a customs form may want three. The chart is for reading, the converter is for recording.

How the calculation works

  • kilograms = pounds ÷ 2.20462262
  • stones = pounds ÷ 14
  • 220 lb = 99.79 kg
